Ex Machina is the best movie I have seen this year. Writer/director, Alex Garland has written some of my all-time favorite movies (28 days later, Sunshine, and 2012’s Dredd) and he is no stranger to science fiction, but this is the first chance he’s had to direct his own script.
Domhnall Gleeson (Caleb) does a great job and really grows into his character as the movie progresses. After seeing him in this, I would not be disappointed if they cast this guy as Peter Parker. Alicia Vikander (Ava) is so cool in this movie. She plays Ava perfectly down to the way she moves. It’s not ‘87s Robocop, but it’s still not as fluid as regular natural movement. I’m not a big Oscar Isaac fan. That being said, I loved his portrayal of Nathan the eccentric billionaire computer genius. Mostly because you hate him by the end of the movie. They couldn’t have picked a better guy to play an asshole.
There are only three real speaking parts in this movie. It’s refreshingly small and intimate. I’m having a hard time finding something bad to say about Ex Machina. I guess I’ll have to go watch it again. Two thumbs up, high five, good job everybody.
