Furious 7 Review
By Jason Taylor
James Wan best known for Insidious, Saw, and The Conjuring takes over the franchise from Justin Lin. So Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is out for revenge since Dom (Vin Diesel) and his family put his brother (Luke Evans) in the hospital. So Shaw gets the list of the teams names from Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) Shaw goes to Tokyo and take out Han (Sung Kang), and sends a bomb package to the O’Connor (Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster) house. Dom discovers what is going on and it is a nonstop ride till the end.
This franchise since Fast Five in this writers opinion is what action films are all about. You have over the top action, planes falling from the sky with parachutes. You have your one liners from many of the characters. I can’t express how fun this movie is. Kurt Russell also has a fun role in this film. The weakness in the film is when it tries to add layers of depth, the plot line with Letty’s (Michelle Rodriguez) amnesia is strong in this film. There are a bunch of weird flashback glimpses I could have done without. I don’t need a deep plot just give me the cheese and fun.
This film also handles the tragic death of Paul Walker very well. Having only filmed half of the movie, you can’t really tell what was done by his brothers and what was his. The tribute at the end when they retire the character is done so well. In a film with so many cliché. I feel it was done with originality and didn’t fall into the usual cliché. Great job to James Wan for making the best of a horrible situation.
This movie gets a solid 7/10 from me. It delivers in all the action, fun and cheese that you want from a film like this. I don’t feel it’s as good as the previous two, but it is my third favorite of the franchise thus far. This is my first written review so go easy on me.
